Grant Overview:The EMBII Challenge Grant will provide two installments of $500 to further the darkroom and silk screen areas, making them both operational and convenient for member use.Projects enabled by the grant:Darkroom:A fan and hose will be installed to ventilate the space, electrical conduit will be installed to provide power needs (light, fan, safelight, group boxes, timers, enlarger), and a sink will be constructed for space use. Any money left for this project will go toward the purchase of chemicals, paper, extra drying racks, or other art supplies that will be made available to members or for demos. This space will be open to any member or renter who demonstrates an ability to use it safely!Silk Screen Area:The grant would provide 10 aluminum screens (24X36), 4-6 squeegees and 1-2 scoop squeegees; screens will be labeled and held for use by a renter/member for a month period. There are slight differences between squeegees for cloth or paper printing. Also provided would be screen filler, dish detergent (for cleaning screen filler), photo emulsion,and photo emulsion solvent/remover, masking tape, a dish scrub brush, 1 gallon black ink, and 1 gallon white ink. The amount of emulsion and similar products included for renters should not be unlimited; emulsion is expensive. But these supplies would give basic access to all renters and allow demos and projects to get off the ground.Timeframe:1st installment of grant received 1/1/12Darkroom finished and operational by 1/31/122nd installment of grant received 2/1/12Screen Printing area renovated by 2/29/12
